Valentines Day

I like valentines day.  I really do.  It is kinda fun, especially as a teacher of 6th graders. I just smile to think about devoting a day to the bubbly, giggly, crushing feelings that we all have for people, candy, PINK, flowers, and giving/receiving gifts just for being loved--who doesn't like that!

There are so many kids in my class this year with spring fever already!  I can't tell you how many of them have crushes on each other.  I remember 6th grade crushes vividly. Brett Miller, ahhh, yes, Bret Miller.  Who knows what happened to my elementary love.  He was the cutest boy in the class, quiet, smart, shaved head.  Cool kid--you know, like a skater boy of today.  Ha ha ha ha.  I think one time we held hands, and I just about died.  Otherwise, he didn't really want to have anything to do with me.

You should have seen some of these kids yesterday!  We do something called "valegrams" for the kids, where they can send  a card and sucker to someone at school.  I handed them out yesterday and I probably had at least 10 to give out that were from  "a  secret admirer."  It just made me laugh to see the cute blushing faces of some of these boys and girls.

Darren made me a yummy italian dinner and we watched a movie.  Since I am sick it was a pretty low key night.  But that was really what I wanted to do anyway-lately I have been so busy and going like crazy!  What is new there though, right?!

As we ---wait correction---- he--- was cooking (and I was watching), we suddenly realized that this is the SEVENTH valentines day that we have spent together.  SEVEN.  That is our lucky number.  Isn't that strange.  That is a lot of 2/14's to have together.  We can remember most of them.  The first being a hilarious (sorry D, Steve, Darek) romantic evening with spaghetti and candle light for the three couples where the boys tried to wine-wait-cider and dine us.  Darren bought me MAGNETIC KISSING BEARS (see picture above), which were so ridiculous (sorry D) and I ended up throwing them out when I was mad at him once--(I kinda regret that), and I got him a really nice tie (which he hated).  HA HA HA HHA.  We can't really remember the second one, although it could have been outback in Orem, and the rest got better as the years past.  As a side note, we did spend two joyous years (by choice) at a truck stop in Springville.  WHAT???  The food was good and it gave us a good laugh to spend valentines day at a truck stop!!
